Interview with Jennifer Rhee: Friday 5/7/21
Jennifer was so great to talk to! We talked about how we are both in sororities, as she is in the same sorority as one of my roommates. She told me about how she plans to study abroad in France this fall, which sounds so exciting. She is most excited just about seeing and experiencing the culture there. She told me how she has taken French and ASL classes, which was great to hear as I am interested in learning ASL. We talked about how we both like to procrastinate on our work, and even though it makes us stressed it also makes us feel some exhilaration to do things last minute. We talked about different things to do around LA, as I have been wanting to do more activities besides going out to eat. One great recommendation she gave me was to try to get a ticket for a movie premiere when the Westwood Theatre is open (which I think it just opened!) It would be so fun to see a movie premiere. Overall, Jennifer was so nice and easy to talk to.

Interview with Michael Keily: Friday 5/7/21
I enjoyed my interview with Michael today. He gave me some great insight into the Econ department at UCLA, as I have been debating switching majors for a while now. He kind of swayed me toward not sticking with it as the Econ department is not great and the classes can be math-heavy, but he recommends if I do stay with the major to double major in something else. I think I will stick it out for the next Econ classes and come to him for more advice if/when I cross. We also talked about Mock Trial, since he used to be on the UCLA Mock Trial team. He said it was a lot of work and the environment can be toxic due to some people who take it too seriously, but he also had a lot of great memories. He also told a funny story about how during his pledge class Mock Trial performance, he was very dramatic and received feedback that he was too good that he made the opposing side look bad. I thought this was funny, as we are both used to Mock Trial being a competition, but for the pledge class we are meant to work together, which is a nice change but also hard to adjust to. He also told me about UniCamp, which sounds super fun. I would love to work with kids and be at a summer camp, as this is something that I have never experienced. I hope to speak with him in the future if/when I cross!

Interview with David Hernandez: Monday 5/10/21
It was great to talk to David today! He told me that he stayed up till 4 AM to finish his midterm, but he wasn't too tired. He was able to make coffee. He talked a little about his political science classes and his entrepreneurship minor. The minor seems super interesting as he can take a variety of classes. He chose this minor since he is interested in corporate law. He showed me the monkey he made at Color Me Mine on his adopted big little date with Akunnia, which was so cute. One TV show that we both love is Jane the Virgin. He actually met the actor who plays Michael, which is so cool. I also recommended the show Elite, and he told me he saw a few episodes. Overall, David was so kind and I enjoyed my interview a lot.

Interview with Iris Hong: Monday 5/10/21
Iris was super nice! She talked a little about her job at an entertainment law firm. She said that most of the law jobs she's had have shown her that she does not want to go into that specific type of law. As of now, she is interested in immigration law. It was cool to hear that she immigrated to the U.S. from Korea. I told her how my mom immigrated here from Vietnam. She recognized my last name as Japanese since her parents lived in Japan for a while, so I told her that I was a mix of Japanese, Vietnamese, and Chinese. She also told me a little about Chicago, where I have always wanted to visit. We both agreed that it would be cool to live in New York for a year or two while we are still young. We also agreed that LA doesn't really feel like a city sometimes. It does not have the same vibe as NYC or Chicago. We also talked about different coffee shops since we both love coffee. Iris was so great to talk to!

Interview with Anita Ramasastry: Monday 5/10/21
I was so glad to have a joint interview with Eric, where we could interview Anita. Anita is so POWERFUL. She told us about how she learned to play golf through YouTube after her friend said that girls can't play golf, and then she beat him. We also talked about how Westwood landlords are crazy and can complain over the littlest things. In addition, we talked about how pledging is going for both of us and random things like what type of accent we would want (Anita does a great British accent). Anita is the perfect Big for Vidya because I can tell how caring she is and that she will spoil Vidya, and Vidya is the sweetest person ever! Anita was so kind and great to talk to.

Interview with Amy Vandyken: Tuesday 5/11/21
Amy was so nice! She told me she is going to be an NSA this summer which sounds great but also like a huge time commitment. She is very involved on campus, as she is also in Bruin Ambassadors, Cub Tours, and UniCamp. She said UniCamp is probably her favorite organization. She loves working with kids and wants to be a teacher, specifically younger kids like preschool and kindergarten. I told her that my mom used to be a kindergarten teacher and the kids are so cute! I think Amy would be a great teacher because she is so nice and has great energy. She also used to work at a boba shop. The boba places in LA aren't great, but she recommended I try Meet Fresh in Westwood. Overall I hope I can talk to Amy again soon since she is matriarch of the Bitches Family!

Interview with Mira Khosla: Tuesday 5/11/21
I LOVED my interview with Mira! She was super cool to talk to. She started the interview in the car since she was driving home from the Bay Area after surprising her mom for Mother's Day. She talked about how she loves driving, and became attached to it when her Dad would drive when she was little and she'd fall asleep in the car. I told her how I enjoy driving too (and DoorDashing), but sadly don't have my car in Westwood. She loves the bay area (where she's from), and I agreed that being from NorCal it feels more fresh and pretty (no LA smog). She told me she's vegetarian and showed me some of the yummy food her parents gave her. We also talked about the Netflix show Elite which is one of my favorite shows ever. It was so great talking to her about the show because I felt like not a lot of people have watched it. In addition, we are both in sororities and she told about her debate on if she wants to live in her sorority house next year. Overall, Mira was so amazing and chill and I can't wait to talk to her more if/when I cross!!!

Interview with Adrian Pagan: Tuesday 5/11/21
I had an very interesting interview with Adrian. We honestly just talked about random topics throughout the interview. One takeaway Adrian wanted me to remember from the interview is that he is a "tank" and can eat an insane amount of food. We liked a lot of the same foods such as pho, sushi, kbbq, and poke. One funny assumption he made about me is that I love Ariana Grande. I do like her music but I'm not a crazy fan or anything. He is also Argentine and can speak Spanish so he tried to test me on my Spanish. I also learned that he likes chocolate (he was eating the Ferrero Rocher ones during the interview) and enjoys coffee. Overall, it was a very relaxed time.

Interview with Caroline Hsu: Tuesday 5/11/21
It was great to get to know Caroline better. We both bonded over the fact that we are both in sororities. However, we haven't really gotten the chance to experience sorority life, since there were no events this year. She told me she is going to Yosemite this summer which sounds super fun! I told her I was also going on a trip near Yosemite this weekend. We also just talked a little about how pledging is going and how it will be so different if/when I cross. Caroline was super nice and cool to talk to!

Interview with Mihir Rai: Friday 5/14/21
It was great talking to Mihir today. He showed me some of the shoes that he has, which was super cool. I told him that I had just bought shoes for my boyfriend. He also told me about his recent trip to Portland and Seattle, which sounded like a lot of fun. He got a cool pair of Jordans there. He also told me what it is like living in Texas, where it's cool but also not much to do. I related to this a lot being from Sac. We also talked a lot about out favorite food places and desserts to get in LA. We both have really big sweet tooths. He is doing a fun challenge where he is going to BJ's every Tuesday for $3 Pizookies and trying a new one each time until he tries them all. Overall, I really enjoyed my conversation with Mihir.

Interview with Michael Nazar: Monday 5/17/21
Michael was so great to talk to. He told me what it was like being an NSA and although it was a lot of work for him, he really recommends it. He said he gained a whole new perspective and a lot of empathy. He also told many funny stories, such as when he worked at Fry's Electronics. He said it was a horrible experience since customers didn't know what they needed. He recommends working at Kerchoff coffee (despite the fact that he had no prior knowledge about coffee). He also told me how he started to ask for extensions on assignments and it turned into a bad habit. He told a funny story about how he went to the Westwood Theater with a girl and despite the emptiness of the theater with many seats being open, some random old man sat next to the girl. Even after they moved, the man moved to sit next to the girl. Michael also told me about the many places he has gone to in Europe and especially recommends going to Amsterdam. Overall, Michael was so funny and great to speak with.

Interview with Loren Sim: Monday 5/17/21
I had a great joint interview with Hanna where we were able to speak with Loren. She told us about how when she was pledging, she didn't know that interviews could be more formal so she robotically had 50 questions prepared. We talked about watching YouTube because sometimes it is hard to pay attention when watching longer movies. We all really enjoy the show Friends because it is a comfort show. We are all super into clothes and fashion, and Loren loves makeup. We also talked a lot about dying our hair, since all of us had/have a blonde phase. Overall, Loren was super sweet.

Interview with Lefter Espinoza Coronel: Monday 5/17/21
It was so great to talk to Lefter (I had a joint interview with Eric). He was so cool! He talked about how he has been very busy with his stocks. He seems very invested in stocks and knows a lot about them. Lefter wants to go into the military which is very cool. He says he enjoys watching YouTube, especially workout videos. I definitely need to take workout advice from Lefter. He asked us a bunch of fun random questions that were funny to answer. He gave us a lot of great advice about pledging as well. Lefter was very chill to talk to.

Interview with Caitlin Buckley: Monday 5/17/21
I had another joint interview with Eric where we had the chance to talk to Caitlin, who was so lovely! She told us about her current job where she recruits for a law firm. Although she is ready to leave, she does enjoy talking to the people there. She also told us about how she is moving to Boston soon for her new job, which sounds so exciting! It will be a big change moving from the west coast to the east coast. She is also vegetarian which was so cool to hear! She has been vegetarian since sophomore year and told us about a cool book she read having to do with it. Overall, Caitlin was so amazing to talk to.

Interview with Julia Rowell: Tuesday 5/18/21
It was great getting to talk to Julia. She was actually my NSA last summer, so it was fun to talk to her even more. She told me about the difficulties of being a NSA in a virtual setting. In-person orientation would've definitely been more ideal, but I still loved having Julia as my NSA. She also told me more about being part of the Community Service Commission, since I want to get involved in more community service. She does a lot of work with guiding projects and finding ethical service practices. She also told me about her job as an Airbrush Artist, and how it can be annoying when customers don't tip. We also talked a lot about clothing/shopping, since this is something we both love. Overall, Julia was so sweet and I'm glad I got to know her better.
