Interview with Chloe: Wednesday 4/21/21
Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Chloe. Chloe was super sweet, passionate, and down to earth, and the time went by super quickly. We talked about her UCLA Radio shows. She really enjoys the shows but she is also super busy with other commitments, such as Mobile Clinic and her role as Sexperts' Co-director. She was so kind to listen to my interests and passions and give me recommendations for organizations I could join, including Bruin Ambassador Program, YDSA, SLAP, and CSC. We also talked a lot about our relationships. I will definitely come to her for relationship advice; she is such a great listener and very knowledgeable as well since she is part of Sexperts. She really made me feel better about the pledge process and told me it is okay to not be sure about what career I want to go into. Her Community Engagement & Social Change minor sounds super interesting as well. I hope she gets into UC Sacramento and can work with the governor because that would be a super cool experience. She is interested in going into Community/Grassroots Law or Public Policy. Overall, Chloe is just a super cool and warm person and I am so glad we are in the same family. I am excited to talk to her more soon.

Interview with Sophie Zane: Thursday 4/22/21
I had a great conversation with Sophie today, and time went by super quickly. Sophie is talented at crocheting, and showed me the adorable sweaters she made/is making. We also talked a lot about relationships. I was shocked to hear that she has a long distance boyfriend from Germany. I was even more shocked to hear that her boyfriend codes for three companies. I thought my long distance relationship was tough, but that is a whole other level of far. We related to the fact that we are both short: she is 4'11 and I am 5'0. We also related to the fact that most people think we are younger than we actually are, which can be annoying. We also talked a lot about her French minor. Some of her favorite French classes are French Film and French Translation. She is also learning German which is super cool. We talked about both wishing we learned the languages that our family speaks. Her favorite memory from Kappa Alpha Pi was filming the Friends intro mission with her pledge class. I hope my pledge class can jump in the fountain at UCLA as well; it sounds so fun. Finally, we talked about our shared love of boba. Overall, Sophie was super easy to talk to and I hope I can talk to her again soon.

Interview with Chanel Nejad: Friday 4/23/21
I am so glad I got the chance to get to know Chanel more. We talked about our shared love for One Direction and Harry Styles. We both really want to attend his concert, but we don't think concerts will be allowed still this summer. She also told me about the Brotherhood Events the Alpha Nu class planned last quarter. The PowerPoint event in particular sounds so fun, so I was excited to hear that recommendation. I am glad she is super close with her p-bros. We talked about waiting for SZA to release a new album, as well as Rihanna. We then talked about how we think Rihanna's Fenty Beauty makeup line is great. We also talked about our bad experiences getting our hair dyed. Chanel just dyed her hair dark again, and I was saying how I wanted to go back to my natural hair as well. Overall, Chanel was super sweet and fun to talk to.

Interview with Peter Chelebian: Friday 4/23/21
Today I had a very relaxed conversation with Peter. We mostly just talked about the pledge process and he gave me some advice, as he was also one of the Brotherhood Chairs for the Alpha Nus. We both are addicted to TikTok which is funny. He told me about his love for minions, which started because he likes to do things that make others mad. He said it is just an ironic joke, but just like the TikTok sound: "I don't think it's a joke anymore." He told me about his favorite movies, such as The Godfather and Jojo Rabbit. He hopes to become the manager for the men's golf team after Carter. He is interested in pursuing a double major, perhaps in something to do with math. He doesn't enjoy math, but he says he is good at it and wants to major in two very different things because it looks better when applying to law school. This made me reconsider if I wanted to switch out of the Business Economics major or not, as an Economics and Political Science double major might look good. Overall, the conversation was chill and Peter is very funny.

Interview with Ricky Fu: Friday 4/23/21
Today I got the chance to get to know Ricky better. I thought it was cool that Ricky has moved around to so many places, from being born in China, to moving to Singapore, Canada, Germany, New Jersey, and now Westwood. I thought it was impressive that he can speak 5 languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, German, and French. He said his favorite places have been China or Canada, as he is a Canadian citizen, but objectively it would be Singapore. I've always wanted to go to Singapore, especially because that is where one of my favorite movies, Crazy Rich Asians, takes place. We mostly related about our struggles to decide what we really wanted to do as a career and even what to double major in, as he is debating between a Global Studies or IDS double major. We also related to the fact that we are both involved in social Greek life, which is fun. His biggest piece of advice is to prioritize school, which I will listen to, as I have been very behind in my schoolwork.

Interview with Connie Liang: Monday 4/26/21
I had such a fun conversation with Connie today! We started off talking about how she had just moved into the University Apartments in Westwood. I asked how she likes it, and besides it being one of the older buildings, she seems to really like it! She showed me some of her posters that she got for room decorations, such as her Kodak Black poster, which was so cool. One thing we bonded over was that besides Mr. Noodle, we didn't think any of the restaurants in Westwood are that great, so we have been doing more cooking at home. We both laughed over the fact that we are too scared to cook meat because we don't want it to be undercooked, so we have almost turned vegetarian during our time living alone. We both wish we had a car so that we could escape Westwood and do more activities around LA. I thought it was so cool that during Connie's time living in Hawaii winter quarter, she learned how to surf simply by observing other surfers and having some friends show her. Surfing is definitely something I want to learn how to do. Overall, Connie was so cool and easy to talk to.

Interview with Lillan Lamb: Tuesday 4/27/21
Today I had a great interview with Lillan. I was nervous at first because I felt so bad for spelling her name wrong (twice) and thought she would hate me, but she was super nice about it. We talked about her experience as an engineering major, and she said how there was a large divide between north and south campus. We both related about the fact that we were both not majors that most people in Kappa Alpha Pi have, and that we might want to go to law school but also are not 100% sure. We both agreed that keeping the majors we have now would still be useful if we decide not to go to law school. The engineering school sounds intense, and she said only 13% of the people are female, which was shocking to hear. We talked about how we both are doing tutoring, only hers is related to the honors society she's in, and she tutors about engineering concepts, which sounds a lot harder. I talked about wanting to learn to skate but every time I have gone I've been so bad, but she was so nice in encouraging me that it's not too late to learn, and suggesting that I find a parking garage to practice in. We also both love coffee, and she recommended that I go to Elysee to get coffee and do work. She also told me her roommate horror story from last year, which was funny; I can't imagine having such an unclean roommate. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my conversation with Lillan and hope to talk more with her in the future.

Interview with Ranhita Bora: Wednesday 4/28/21
Ranhita was so great to talk to! She was telling me about how her apartment has no amenities and how roaches are in the hot tub, which sounds gross. She talked about how busy she was this week with midterms and a cheer clinic today. She just got back from Cabo, which sounded really fun. She told a funny story about how her partner thought he lost her at the resort. She talked about her job at a law firm, which sounded really interesting. The law firm specializes in consumer protection, which I realized is so important in exposing companies and keeping consumers safe. She told a cool story about one of the cases she worked on with Trader Joe's, where Trader Joe's labeled one of their Vitamin E oils as is, even though it didn't actually contain much vitamin E. Through the work of her firm, they now have to label it Vitamin E blend. It's crazy that so many products, including those from brands that I have used before, are misleading. Her internship at Apple sounded amazing. Although she didn't love dealing with all the contracts, the executives seemed to have a cool job working with celebrities and negotiating. This made me interesting in researching more on entertainment law. We also talked about how weird the placebo effect is, and also about if chlorophyll water works. She said she believes it works, and now I want to try it. Overall, I loved Ranhita's fun and warm energy and hope I can speak with her more soon.

Interview with Hannah Daggy: Wednesday 4/28/21
I loved talking to Hannah today! We had a super chill conversation. We talked about how we both like going to the same restaurant pretty frequently, and we both like grocery shopping at Trader Joe's. We talked about how we both like coffee, specifically the La Colombe coffee. She talked a little about the anthropology major, as I had never met anyone with that major. Some of the classes seem interesting, such as the human experience and criminology classes. We also related that we both love hearing gossip but not being involved in drama. She told me some "tea" about some friends and I told her about my roommate situation. We talked a little about San Diego, as she is from there, and I had just gone over spring break. Overall, the time went by super quickly and I enjoyed our conversation greatly.

Interview with Carter Walling: Thursday 4/29/21
I really enjoyed my interview with Carter! We kind of just joked about how different our lives are, as he just graduated and experienced the end of college with COVID, whereas I am only a first-year and experienced my first year with COVID but will likely have my other years in person. He told me a lot about his favorite memories on campus, such as when his pledge class went to the dining hall at night to work on their mock trial case. He made me very excited to try dining hall food. It was great to hear about his job where he is able to combine research with law. He said that he does research to build profiles of jurors, and then helps attorneys improve their arguments based on this research. This seemed super interesting as I enjoy conducting research on people. Since he was a transfer, he said that the school didn't let him double major with econ and political science so he just chose political science, so we joked that he could live vicariously through me if I decided to go through with my econ and poli sci double major. Overall, it was a fun conversation and Carter was great to talk to.

Interview with Matthew Lyou: Sunday 5/2/21
I really enjoyed talking to Matthew today! We talked about lots of different things, including learning to cook and his goal of making the perfect sandwich. We bonded over our love for TikTok and the unhealthy amount of screen time we devote to it. We also talked about the differences between NorCal and SoCal, and how the vibe he gets from NorCal beaches is that the beaches hate you. He also talked about the many microclimates that LA has, as it is such a large area with many geographical features. I enjoyed hearing about how he is part of Bruin Ambassadors, where he goes to underserved high schools to tell students about UCLA/the UC system, and helps give them access to resources to help them attain higher education. We talked about where we want to live when we're older, and we both agreed ideally we want to live in San Diego or Santa Barbara, but not really LA. We also talked about the expensive cost of living, and I said that sometimes I want to be a trophy wife, and he said he wants to move to New Zealand to be a goat farmer. Finally, he talked about being part of TASA, and encouraged me to join a cultural group as well. Overall, Matthew was very kind and easy to talk to.

Interview with Chidi Omeze: Monday 5/3/21
Chidi was super great to talk to. We related to the fact that we are both from Sacramento/Elk Grove, which I thought was cool since I haven't met many other people from there. My dad actually went to the same high school he went to and the same city college, which was a cool coincidence. It was fun to talk about how there isn't much to do in Sac compared to LA, but when we did want to do something fun we both would go to San Francisco with friends. His internship at Tenants Law Firm sounds super impactful. He mostly talks to clients who are filing claims and asks them questions, and the clients share their stories. It is amazing that he can make a real difference in people's lives, as many people live in horrible conditions under corrupt landlords. I was surprised to hear that despite his work here, he intends to go into entertainment law. It is funny that he used to want to be a pop star, so now the closest thing is to be a lawyer for a cool artist (ideally Beyonce or the Weeknd). I think it would be a power move to work with artists as well. Overall, I am grateful Chidi took the time out of his busy schedule to speak with me, and I really enjoyed our conversation.

Interview with Ira Phatak: Tuesday 5/4/21
It was super nice talking to Ira today! We talked about where we are from, as I am from Sacramento and she is from Dublin, which isn't too far from me. We talked about how there isn't much to do in our small towns; for example, we would mostly go to Target and then get boba or Dutch Bros. I thought it was so cool that she was born in Britain and lived in various places around the U.S. We talked a little about arranged marriages and compared it to "love" marriage, and how both have pros and cons. She also used to be an Econ major when she was a freshman, so we talked a little about what made her decide to switch. She has a job at the writing center and on the USAC elections board, which sounds like a lot of work but also very cool. We talked a little about COVID and how we sometimes think about how our lives would be different without it. Overall, we would not change who/where we are now, as we believe everyone has grown a lot during this time. I want to travel more, and she said how one of her favorite places that she has visited has been Croatia. She was also so kind to give me advice on my roommate situation and she encouraged me to talk to my roommate about how I feel. Ira was so kind and I'm glad I had the opportunity to talk to her.

Interview with Maxine Dalton: Tuesday 5/4/21
It was great talking to Maxine today. We talked about the cluster class I am taking, and related that clusters can be good but kind of hit or miss, since some professors can be boring or bad at teaching. We talked a lot about majors and trying to find what major fits us best. I am impressed that Max is a triple major. She told me that she was also a Business Econ major like me and complete all the pre-major requirements before deciding that she did not want to do it. All the people I have talked to have kind of encouraged me to see if econ is right for me, as I have been debating this for a while. I enjoyed hearing about the majors she is in, but don't think I like math or science enough to do applied math or cognitive science. Sociology does sound interesting, though. She reassured me that I still have time to figure everything out. I also enjoyed hearing about her future plans, to work for Teach for America after graduation, then go to law school, and ultimately become an FBI Agent. I can definitely see Max as an FBI Agent. I also liked to talk to Max about the high school she went to, where it had a weird schedule of classes during the summer and graduation in November. This is so the students could train for skiing in the winter. It is so cool that Max is very athletic, as I am not. Overall, Max was super nice and easy to talk to.
