05/06 Interview with Journey:
My interview with Journey was a really great time. We started off talking about Philosophy courses because Journey is a Philosophy major and I am considering the minor. I told her how I wanted those key skills and she recommended Philosophy 22 which I really appreciated and will keep in mind. We then somehow started sharing stories and talking about high school. We both have experience on student council/ASB and it was funny to hear how different our high schools were. I told Journey about ethics bowl and just how much I love the cases and she was excited to look more into it after our discussion. We then shared some UCLA acceptance stories and we both felt it was the highlight of a pretty gloomy senior year. Journey told me about her work friends- who are also coming to UCLA next year- which is so exciting. I told her about Sublime which sparked the conversation of an amazing cupcake shop that she has been to called Suite 106 and after looking it up I WAS OBSESSED. They also have banana pudding which looked amazing, I wish it was still open. It was so nice getting to know Journey and I hope we can talk again soon.

05/08 Interview with Suzy:
My interview with Suzy was a wonderful time. Suzy and I are both VERY tasks oriented and enjoy writing out all of our work and crossing it off. We laughed a lot when sharing our habits but agreed that it keeps us on track and makes us feel accomplished which is very important. Suzy shared with me how Mock Trial at UCLA is and I hope to get involved in some way at some point in my time at UCLA. She found that her experience in Mock Trials made her more confident in her public speaking skills which is something I really value. We talked about her Environmental studies and systems minor which she loves and overall had a great discussion on taking different classes during our time. One of my favorite parts of the conversation was hearing that Suzy is going to be an RA next year which is so exciting! Some great advice that Suzy gave me is to enjoy these years for what they are and I hope to always keep that in mind.

05/09 Interview with Max:
I really loved my interview with Max. I have no idea how the time flew by but our conversation was filled with all of our favorite memories, places, events, and activities in Philly. Max actually grew up in the city and I knew her high school and she knew mine. Really made me realize what a small world it is, but my favorite part of talking with Max is that, similar to me and my family, she truly appreciated Philly for all its small shops and local restaurants aside from the fanciness that comes with parts of the city. It felt so great to have someone that knew and loved all the places that flooded my childhood and teenage years. We talked about field trips, funny trends, and most interestingly the school environment in PA and how that greatly differs from the west coast. Max ended up moving to Utah to finish high school so she had a really interesting perspective on the differences between the 2 coasts. We both have a very similar work style and really enjoy being involved in different activities. She recommended some great clubs I wrote down and I really look forward to looking more into them. It felt like I knew Max since I was in middle school because she grew up doing so many the things I did! I am really grateful to have had the chance to meet her and reminisce on our favorite moments in the best city.

05/10 Interview with Michael Nazar:
My interview with Michael was a great time! We started off by talking about our high schools and the different opportunities they provided for us. Michael had some really great programs that I wish my school had to offer such as a fashion show where people of all different skills and backgrounds could participate to put on an incredible show- from management, back stage, to the models themselves. We then talked about his experience as an NSA which he really loves and he made me really want to look into potentially persuing that! Similar to me, he found that the people you are able to hear from throughout the orientation process are very inspiring. We also discussed different movies and we both love Just Mercy and Michael recommended some great ones that I was able to write down. I also told him about Beautiful Mind which I really enjoyed. We were then able to talk about some of his classes within the Iranian minor which I found really interesting and it is nice that UCLA offers them. Michael is really great and I am glad we were able to meet!

05/10 Interview with Michael Keily
My interview with Micahel Keily was a really incredible time. My conversation with him was one of the greatest I have had in a really long time and I truly have no idea how the time flew by. We started off talking about general college advice and tips and I really took the advice Michael gave to heart. Michael shared with me what Unicamp is all about, the activities, events, and the impact that the organization is able to make. I really hope to get involved with Unicamp during my time at UCLA especially after hearing the great stories he shared. One of my favorite parts of my conversation with Michael is when he shared with me how his 2 majors- Bus Econ and Geography complement each other. It was one of the most insightful conversations that made me realize how that is similar to how I feel with Pub Aff and Econ but the way Geography came into play truly surprised me. Similar to Michael, I am also passionate in pursuing non-profit work so it was great to discuss why we have that interest. Another favorite part of our conversation is when we discussed manifestation but more importantly the ways in which we have grown this past year and the reason we have enjoyed manifestation. We discussed how it makes us think about why we are doing things the way we are doing and makes us more intentional in our actions which I never really realized until today. Our conversation continued more on that track about logic, reasoning, debate, and the way in which we think and communicate our ideas. Our conversation reminded me of my favorite activity in high school which was Ethics Bowl and I am just very grateful for the opportunity to talk and meet with Michael today.

05/11 Interview with Peter:
My interview with Peter was nothing short of the best. I was really looking forward to this interview because I have really enjoyed mock trial with Peter and Eric always has a great time with him! We talked about UCLA and the great food for a little. Peter loves B-Plate and if I end up getting to live in dorms next year I am really looking forward to trying all the food! He told me about the cool celebrities he has met on campus and it made me so excited to go next year! Also we talked about films for a while because Peter is a film minor and found out that similar to me, he loved A Beautiful Mind. We both appreciated how the film was able to convey such a great message and story to the audience. We talked about MNS for a bit because Peter is a fan and then I found out that Peter is distantly related to the Kardashians which is just awesome. I had a great time getting to know Peter better!

05/11 Interview with Amy:
I had a lovely interview with Amy today! Amy is super sweet and we had the best conversation about our shared love for education. I was really curious to learn about Amy's education minor and after hearing more about it I want to be a teacher even more. We both have a shared passion and drive to make some sort of impact on a child's life especially at a young age. After hearing some of Amy's stories with her siblings and sharing some about my family it was very clear why we have this passion and I really think Amy would be a great teacher. She told me about this lollipop moment TedTalk that I am planning to watch later today- it is all about the importance of the small moments that you make on someone else's life and those small moments that have made a great impact on your life. That is exactly the value I find in teaching and I just loved having the conversation with Amy about this.

05/11 Interview with Ira:
My interview with Ira was lovely. I had a great time learning more about her time and position within the Elections Board and also about her position in the Writing Center. Similar to Ira, I really enjoy writing and it was great to hear the different types of writing she enjoys. I hope to either use or work within the writing center during my time at UCLA and grow as a writer as well. One of my favorite parts of my interview with Ira was learning about her interest in theory- and different types of theory. I also enjoyed learning about Ira's position within the fraternity as President and found that we both appreciate the encouragement we are lucky enough to receive from those around us. We had a great time talking about our siblings and how covid has impacted their school/education overall. She was very kind and easy to talk to and I was really looking forward to this interview and it was a wonderful time.

05/11 Interview with Matthew:
My interview with Matthew was amazing!! We started off by talking about the Public Affairs major and how we really love how applications-oriented it is! We talked about some of our favorite courses within the major and Matthew shared his experience with it overall because he is a year ahead. I really enjoyed talking about the different topics we are currently researching and writing about in PA 70- Matthew chose civic education which I have always really valued and appreciated. We then talked about how Covid impacted social life and our overall excitement to go to UCLA next year. One of my favorite parts was talking about BAPS with Matthew and I am really looking forward to applying. The work they do- and the students they focus on- is really important work and I am glad UCLA is partaking in work like that. Also, I loved talked to Matthew about education in general and how I hope to help students in some way. I enjoyed hearing more of Matthew's interests- especially his passion for video game design. I am still so happy after this interview and I really hope to have the chance to talk to and learn from Matthew again soon.

05/14 Interview with Caitlin:
My interview with Caitlin was a great time! I have never met her before so it was great to finally have the chance to talk. We started off talking about how weird standardized tests have been this past year with Covid as she took the LSAT recently and I had a few AP Exams last year. We had a great conversation about the pledge process because she was AVPR last quarter and I told her how much I appreciated this process- even virtually it has been a great time. My favorite part of the conversation was talking about the field of law that Caitlin is interested in pursuing and even greater was learning that Unicamp solidified these interests. I really hope to have the opportunity to join Unicamp because her experience was really lovely to hear. She lead a group of 13-14 year olds and felt that she was able to make a great impact. I enjoyed hearing about her upcoming internship in Boston and I hope she can handle the brutal winter!

05/17 Interview with Mira:
My interview with Mira was lovely! We started off talking about our days and how the slap of week 8 has definitely kicked in. It was nice to talk about how we both want to start making sure that we are living our life on our own terms-- deciding to do things because we want to do them as opposed to doing them to impress/please others. Mira talked to me about her adjustments with Covid and how this past quarter has been. We had a lovely time talking about doing things to find pockets of happiness in the days may be a sunset or a nice drive. I really enjoyed talking about education, specifically elementary education, with Mira and how we both admire and have had a desire to become a teacher so we can have a lasting and meaningful impact on children. We also talked about education in a broad sense and just how critical and important it is. Mira told me she was going to use the day to re-set for these last few hectic weeks of the quarter. Mira reminded me that it is important to not lose sight of the moments in the day- even if they are short- where we feel relaxed and proud of ourselves. Mira was a great start to the day and I am glad I was able to interview her.

05/17 Interview with Lillan:
My interview with Lillan was wonderful. Lillan is a stem major and it was really great to talk to her about how she is hoping to combine her interests in the stem field with a career in law. Similar to my cousin, she is interested in patent law which I think is amazing. I mentioned to Lillan that I am interested in pursuing the cognitive science minor and in general wanted CS skills before graduating. She kindly gave me a few CS classes and I am really looking forward to taking them sometime next year. We talked about the value of learning how to code and the overall value of taking different classes and having different interests. My favorite part of our conversation was talking about how diverse the people within the fraternity are in terms of involvement. As a first-year, it is especially great to hear about all the different campus clubs and what they do from first-hand experience. Lillan told me how great it was to live on campus and my excitement of living there next year came back once again. I really enjoyed talking to Lillan and learning from her, I know her recommendations will serve me well and I am so glad we had the chance to meet.

05/17 Interview with Ishan:
I had a great interview with Ishan. We started off talking about experiences as out-of-state students and I learned that Ishan is from Florida. One of my favorite parts of my interview with Ishan was learning about his experience within OP in USAC. He shared with me his experience as Research Director in OP and it was great to hear that USAC has such a variety of positions. Ishan previously worked within the Federal committee in EVP and it was definitely an opportunity that I would hope to get involved in. He was able to listen and participate in conversations with congressmen and women. I also enjoyed hearing about Ishan's HS and we talked about how diverse UCLA is and how much we both appreciate that. It was great to hear about Ishan's pledge quarter and how close he also was with his pledge class. He gave advice- to enjoy this time and really enjoy these moments with my pledge brothers- and I will absolutely keep this in mind. My interview with him reminded me how it will be over soon and I really hope to enjoy these last few weeks.

05/17 Interview with Carter:
I had a really great time during my interview with Carter! I learned about the job Carter is currently working at where he researches cases as pretrial work and I was really glad to hear that this is the job he will be pursuing once the school year is over. I especially loved learning about his time in the Mental Health Divison in LA County DA's office. I shared with Carter my interest in the criminal justice system and more specifically juvenile detention work and it was great to have a discussion on the importance of addressing the needs, specifically mental health needs, of these patients. What was most interesting was hearing about the cases he was presented with in the Mental Health division and how tough of a call these judges are often asked to make. I enjoyed talking to Carter about my pledge brothers and we also talked about our family a bit and how our siblings dynamic is/was. I am really grateful that I was able to get to know Carter a bit better because I have really enjoyed the Brotherhood Events and he has made the pledge process a fun time.
