Naomi Haryono - Interview 4/20
I had a super chill interview with Naomi. We talked about how I saw her on Tuesday at a coffee shop, but I didn't know what to say because I hadn't had my first pledge meeting yet. We both really like coffee and trying new coffee shops. We talked a lot about restaurants, and she gave me some good suggestions. Right now, she is vegan for the month of April, which is something she does every year to challenge herself. We have a shared love of seafood/sushi. We talked about what it's like living in Westwood, and how we have to cook for ourselves now. We both plan to stay in LA during the summer, because there is so much to do and the weather is so nice. We also talked about celebrities we wanted to meet and how she hasn't met any herself but was close to meeting some. Overall, she was super sweet and easy to talk to.

4/20: Interview with Ishan
It was wonderful to speak with Ishan. He was very easygoing and allowed for the conversation to move anywhere. I was able to learn a lot about housing options for myself next year per his advice and was able to hear about his experiences living in Canyon Point and Sproul Landing. I'm glad we were able to relate to one another about being out of state and the complications that can bring in being able to take everything home with you. He was also able to tell me what it's like to live in Florida and the different types of people he grew up around. I was glad we were able to discuss our music tastes too and I found out we both like Frank Ocean. The biggest takeaway was our conversations about his own pledge class and how it is different from an online pledging process. Overall, it was a great conversation and I am really excited to get to know him more in the future!

Nathan Klassen – 4/20 Interview with Aman: Today I got to meet with Aman. Despite the amount of lag we sometimes received it was a great conversation. For a bulk of our meeting, we discussed what campus is currently like and what the pledge process would be like if we were to experience it in person. I am glad that I am not in Westwood right now, especially so that I do not have to be hyper-aware of my surroundings and acknowledge any active I pass. We also talked about the dynamic of Kappa Alpha Pi, and how there is a lot of leadership from the middle classes (Kappa–Mu). With the addition of the Nu class, and potentially our pledge class, there will be a lot more younger active members in the fraternity. Depending on how the fall quarter goes and if there is rush, the fraternity will be exponentially expanding. Finally, as the current Co-Director of Professionalism, Aman was able to give me a brief overview of what to plan and expect for the event I will be spearheading on May 5th. Although a daunting task, it is reassuring to know that my fellow pledge brothers will be helping me with this event.

4/19 Interview with Megan.
My interview with Megan was a lot of fun. I felt as though we connected on a lot of subjects such as travel destinations and most of all our favorite cuisines. We both share a love for different tacos and Mexican food which involve exploring different types of meats. I described to her my favorite dishes that are a must try for anyone that loves Mexican food which included carne con chile, enchiladas, tacos de pescado and Torta Ahogadas. We also really connected on divorce law and the impact that family divorces have in the children seeing as though I went through a parent separation. We both agreed that when it comes to divorce law, it goes to show what really goes on in people's houses and also as to how harmful parent separation could be on the children who must also be having a hard time. I was able to inform Megan about the new Chicano movement in Japan and how it has grown in popularity.

4/20: Interview with Ira
I had an amazing time speaking with Ira. I felt like we connected really well and were able to easily talk about things like guys and relationships in college. We made a lot of funny jokes regarding that conversation topic and I was able to tell her about a rose quartz stone I recently bought. We talked for a bit about crystals and astrology. From my limited knowledge, I tried my best to explain what my big three signs meant. I was also able to tell her about how my sister is getting married at the end of May and we discussed our hobbies. It was really interesting to hear about her position within Kappa Alpha Pi from being vice president to now being president. It was also really insightful to hear about her personal rush and pledging experiences. I had a great time and hope to talk with her more soon!

4/19 Interview with Maxine With this interview, I was able to learn a lot about Maxine, coming from one president to another. I loved learning about her experiences as an all around athlete and living in New Zealand for a few months because it made me realize how much of an impressive and strong person she's been. We both shared a similar love for Kappa Alpha Pi in terms of being a frat that we both can call home and be more in tune with ourselves. We enjoy the large diversity in Kappa Alpha Pi and wish for the fraternity to continue its traditions. We both felt more comfortable with this fraternity and thats due to both us enjoying that it is Co-Ed. We also discussed funny coincidences such as her and my big Mihir having the same birthday. Overall, I really enjoyed talking to Maxine and loved her personality.

4/19 Interview with Michael Keily
My interview with Michael was amazing. Me and Michael had so much in common from our views of social media, gaming and our love for Marvel. Throughout the whole interview we mostly discussed our opinions on certain Marvel shows such as Wandavision and the Falcon and Winter Soldier. We were sharing theories about upcoming Marvel Movies and where the MCU will lead to in the coming years. We both have the same favorite superhero in Spiderman and shared our favorite scenes and movies with the character. I also noticed that we both in a way got rid of social media. With myself, I changed everything to not include my name, my photos or any of my information and Michael has no social media whatsoever but we both agreed that social media is very exhausting especially since it is now designated to keep appearances. Overall me and Michael had an amazing interview.

4/19 Interview with Ria
I really enjoyed my interview with Ria as I picked her brain about mock trial and ethics bowl and how that shaped her upbringing to either be a lawyer or a policy maker. I loved discussing about her time interning for the California Democratic Party because it provided me insight as to how politics really works, and how politics is generally just a front. Hearing about Ria's baking was also really fun but I did enjoy how soon we started discussing about diets and how that sometimes can trigger body dysphoria, We also discussed why people should feel free to live the way they want to live and I loved hearing that from someone else just because sometimes me or people I care about go through those times where we feel ashamed for what we eat. Overall, I really loved talking to Ria.

4/20 Interview with Loren
I really enjoyed talking with Loren about our fears, our high school experiences and the numerous ways we choose to live our lives. I asked her about her high school being such a well-known school for its athletics and how that affected her time there. That then translated to me also talking about my own experiences with high school and how in a sense we both feel high school is very overrated and that college is where people can actually experience live. Generally, we both have a good appreciation for nature but we both also share a fear of rock climbing due to the intensity of it and the heights of some climbs as well. We both also want to visit Japan due to much of its culture, beautiful scenery and anime as well. As someone who enjoys Anime, Loren asked if I myself watch it which was tricky to answer since I do want to start watching anime but have been holding it off for sometime. Overall, I really enjoyed talking to Loren.

Hanna Sato - Interview with Sophie Zane 4/20:
My interview with Sophie was very insightful because we both are interested in immigration law and are working towards learning other languages. Sophie mentioned a few of her professional experiences which worked with immigration policies, but expressed her desire to be an immigration lawyer so she could have more exposure in the field. I told her about my own experiences in an immigration law firm and how it reaffirmed my decision to consider being an immigration lawyer in the future. We talked about our shared experiences of being embarrassed to be in touch with our Asian culture and language throughout high school. We also both regret not learning more about our culture and being able to speak our native languages very well. I learned that Sophie is half Filipino and half Chinese and she was fairly close at guessing my ethnicity. I loved talking to Sophie about our shared perspectives on being Asian and the Asian family dynamic we both have experienced. One of the things I looked forward to the most when coming to UCLA was finding a community in which I could explore my culture, a desire Sophie shares. I really enjoyed speaking with Sophie and getting to know her more!

4/20: Interview with Aneri
Just now, I got to have a pretty awesome, chill chat with Aneri. We began talking about some funny stories we had, for example how she has a sprained ankle right now and can't walk and I have a bee sting on my foot and can't walk! We then talked about how Aneri has never been to the Botanical Gardens because I went there earlier today. It's so pretty there, so we talked about how she definitely has to plan to go soon. I told her about my 4 car crashes, and we shared stories about high school and college friends. We both have friends in the "Indian squad" at UCLA so we talked about all the unnecessary drama that goes on there. She also asked how my pledge quarter has been going so far, and how connected I feel to the group and it was really heartwarming. We finished our conversation by talking about community, and how I feel within the Kappa Alpha Pi community thus far. I'm truly so excited for this process to continue as I have more conversations like these with actives.

Christian Schellhase Interview with Aneri Parikh Tuesday 4/20
It was super nice getting to talk with Aneri today. The interview started off on a high note, as I got to meet Scooter, who is a super cute dog. It was nice to talk about our dogs for a few minutes and their shared anxiety problems. Aneri gave some great tips about how to help Puffy, my family dog, with his anxiety. We talked for a while about her work as a legal assistant. I shared some of my concerns about what I had heard could be a strenuous job. Aneri helped explain some of her responsibilities and the importance of law firm culture on how much I could expect to enjoy a similar job. The conversation turned to talk about applying for law school and deciding what field of law I wanted to work in. It was really reassuring to talk with Aneri about potentially taking a gap year to figure out if I wanted to go to law school and what area of law I may want to work in. Aneri explained her game theory research project and the honors program, which I am also a part of. She ended on giving really good advice about adding majors and minors and the value of staying in the honors program. Overall it was a really relaxed and informative conversation; I really hope I can talk with Aneri again in the future!
