Interview with Chidi Omeze - 5/18:
My interview with Chidi was a great way to start the morning, I had a lot of fun getting to know him and he was very easy to talk to. We started by talking about his passion for fashion and his desire to potentially take a gap year to model after graduating which I thought super cool because I can definitely see him as a model. We both agreed that being in LA can be difficult because of the constant emphasis on looks and fashion, but both enjoy fashion nonetheless. Chidi and I also spoke about loving to cook in our free time, we talked about our favorite recipes to make and what frozen meals we eat when we don't actually have the time to cook. Chidi also talked about pledging a social fraternity and how it compares to being a part of Kappa Alpha Pi, as well as giving me some motivational words to help me continue persisting through the pledging process which I appreciated. I loved getting to know Chidi, Mira once described him as "100% just vibes" and I can definitely see that, I really enjoyed speaking with him and am excited to talk to him more in the future.

Interview with Lillan Lamb - 5/18:
Speaking with Lillan was really enjoyable for me, I had only spoken to her a few times before but I feel like we got to know each other super well throughout our interview. Lillan had just gotten her hair dyed blonde and it looked so so good that it really reaffirmed my decision to commit to dying my hair blonde and chopping it off. We talked about the painfully long process of getting our hair done because Asian hair tends to be really difficult to dye and I gave her some recommendations for different shampoos, conditioners, and hair masks for dyed hair. Lillan and I also talked about meeting Tik Tokers in Westwood and wanting to meet Emma Chamberlain and going to her pop-up coffee shop in LA. We also discussed Call Me By Your Name which she has yet to watch and she recommended A Portrait of a Lady On Fire for me since it is similar to CMBYN. Lillan also noticed I had an apple watch and we talked about how we constantly use it just to ping our phones which all of our roommates tend to get annoyed with. I loved speaking to Lillan, I didn't want our interview to end but it just made me more excited by the prospect of crossing and getting to be friends with her. I feel like we had a lot of similar interests and perspectives, so speaking with her was very enjoyable and our interview flew by.

Interview with Aneri Parikh - 5/18:
I loved my interview with Aneri, when I say time flew by it genuinely did, she was so easy to talk to and hilarious all throughout our conversation. We hadn't had the opportunity to get to know each other much yet, so she asked me about the pledging process so far, who my big and adopted big were, and about my twin. Also, we talked about her adopted little and my pledge brother, Vidya, and how badly we want her to come to Westwood so we can hang out with her. Aneri asked me about my adopted big, Michael, and what made me realize I wanted to be his adopted little. She told me a lot of hilarious stories about him that I will definitely bring up later. Aneri also talked to me about the social aspects of the fraternity and told me more about what I have to look forward to if and when I cross. I really enjoyed getting to know Aneri, it made me even more excited at the idea of crossing and our interview was definitely one of the highlights of my week.

Interview with Suzy Kadir - 5/20:
Today I got to speak with Suzy which was super fun and helped me get to know her a lot better. We talked a lot about her upcoming trip to Germany to visit her family this summer and wanting travel around Europe more. Suzy also mentioned that she wants to do the Political Science study abroad over the summer with Journey and Peter which I thought sounded super fun, hearing that made me think about how amazing it would be if I could study abroad with some of my pledge brothers. I told her that I was thinking about going to Spain because I am a Spanish major and want to brush up on my skills which she said she really wanted to do as well if she had time. Suzy also talked to me about her experience in the dorms and reassured me that using the communal bathrooms was not as bad as it seems and I should definitely try to get a dorm and stay optimistic. We also talked about our desire to learn more about our astrology signs, crystals, and tarot cards. Overall, Suzy and I were able to talk about a lot of different topics that gave me insight into who she is, life in the dorms, and more things to look forward to if and when I cross.

Interview with Lauren Salaiz - 5/23:
I loved getting to know Lauren throughout our Membership Education classes, she was always incredibly supportive and positive so I was excited to speak with her this morning. Throughout our interview, she talked about her recent trip to Oahu and we discussed our time there because I went over spring break. We both wanted to do the Stairway to Heaven hike but unfortunately, it is closed to the public and illegal to do. We talked about our different experiences with going to Oahu, when I had gone a few months ago a lot of senior citizens were there because there were a lot of package deals but Lauren said it was fairly empty and very relaxing. Hearing about her trip made me miss my own and look forward to traveling more this summer as things begin to open back up again. Lauren also gave me some reassuring words for Hell Week, telling me to lean on my pledge brothers and not to get overly nervous and worked up which was helpful to hear. Overall, I loved speaking with Lauren and really enjoyed getting to know her throughout the pledging quarter in Mem Ed.

Interview with Josh Moon - 5/23:
I had yet to interact with Josh throughout the pledging quarter but was excited to get to know him as he is my co-little Connie's adopted big and also was my big Mira's co-historian. I was looking forward to hearing any fun stories he had with them because I always enjoy hearing more about their time as active members. I also asked about his favorite moments in Kappa Alpha Pi and any advice he would have given himself going into Hell Week which was very insightful for me, as I am very nervous about going into this week. Josh also spoke to his experiences as a Philosophy major because I have been hearing that political science majors should always consider taking some philosophy courses because the two subjects intersect a lot. Overall, I enjoyed getting to speak with Josh a lot and found his advice very helpful and reassuring for going into the last week of the pledging quarter.

Interview with Michael Nazar - 5/23:
My interview with Michael was incredibly entertaining, I had a lot of fun getting to know him and enjoyed our conversations a lot. We talked about our shared love for Game of Thrones and the emotional roller coaster that the show took us on. We discussed our favorite characters and scenes, as well as our dislike for how the show ended and the forced character development of certain characters and the drastic plot changes. Michael asked me about what my favorite restaurants in LA were and I expressed that I haven't been to many restaurants and would love any recommendations. He told me about Tofuya because I am Korean and was annoyed at the lack of Korean food in Westwood which I am going to try tonight and am super excited for. He also told me about a Persian restaurant in Glendale and a taco place in Venice Beach. We also talked about our experiences with all-you-can-eat restaurants and the importance of going with the right people who can actually pull their weight when it comes to eating vast amounts of food. I had a lot of fun in my interview with Michael and am looking forward to trying more of his recommendations if and when I cross into Kappa Alpha Pi.

Interview with Julia Rowell - 5/24:
I had yet to speak with Julia throughout the pledging process so I was excited to speak with her today. We talked about how I felt about the pledging process so far and my nervousness going into Hell Week. Julia gave me a lot of great advice about this week, such as not overly stressing myself out, leaning on my pledge class and bigs, and studying long term rather than condensing it all into the day before finals. It was reassuring to hear and it made me feel a little better about this week. I asked her about her professional interests and her passion for entertainment law which was very interesting to hear about, as I was unfamiliar with what entertainment law entailed. Overall, I really enjoyed getting to know Julia and am looking forward to speaking with her more if and when I cross.

We talked about a lot of different topics which helped me get to know him a lot better. Lefter described the differences between social and professional fraternities, saying that he felt Kappa Alpha Pi was a lot more welcoming and had a stronger sense of community. I found his perspectives very interesting and they made me even more excited to potentially cross because he spoke so highly of his experiences with his pledge class and the other active members. Lefter also gave me a lot of great advice about planning out this week carefully and leaving time to study properly and make our paddles for active appreciation which was helpful and reassuring to hear. Interview with Ben Woods - 5/24:
I really enjoyed speaking with Ben this afternoon, I was a little nervous at first because I hadn't spoken to him before but I had a lot of fun throughout our interview. I told him about my time on the Daily Bruin and the articles I have written in the past few months about the new stimulus packages and new UCPD policies, as well as my hesitancy to join other on-campus groups because they are on Zoom. We experienced some internet issues which took us into our conversation about how much we hate Spectrum and how they have a monopoly over Westwood's internet. Ben and I also talked about trying to learn new languages, I am majoring in Spanish and trying to become fluent and Ben took French in high school and during college but wants to continue learning. Overall, I loved speaking with Ben and felt like I got to know him a lot more throughout our interview which made me excited to talk to him more if and when I cross.

Interview with Alejandro Salas-Villa - 5/24:
I had a lot of fun in my interview with Alejandro, I was excited to speak with him because he is my adopted big, Michael Keily's roommate. Also, I was interested to hear more about his time in UCLA Law Fellows because I spoke with several alumni about how this program was one of the most informative and useful programs they participate in throughout their time at UCLA. His description of the program definitely reaffirmed my desire to partake in it later on in my undergraduate career. Overall, I loved getting to speak with Alejandro and I look forward to speaking with him in the future.
