4/22 Today, I had my very first interview of Week 2 of Pledging with Chloe Rosenstock! Chloe was the sweetest person ever, and made me feel so reassured about the pledge process. I felt like she was embracing me in this big, warm hug throughout our interview by how comfortable she was making me feel. We talked the most about UCLA Radio, because I really want to join it next quarter. She told me about all the shows she has running on Radio, and it was inspiring to hear all the creative ideas she had. Note to self to join PROGRAMMING when I try out, because it's not a super sought after program! We also talked a lot about the music we like, and I realized her and I have really similar taste. By the end, we were sharing songs that we wanted each other to listen to. I think recommending music should be its own love language Overall, I had an amazing time talking with Chloe and hearing about her concert experiences, favorite pledge moments, and more. I hope I can get to know her even better in the future!

4/23 Today, I had an interview with Connie Liang! Connie was so sweet, and conversation flowed so easily with her. I can easily see her and I becoming friends if and when I cross I felt bad, because she had strep throat. Although I wish I could have brought her cough drops and medicine, her roommate was buying those things for her. We talked about our experiences in Westwood, since she just moved here really recently. I told her about all the problems with my "luxury" apartment, like the metal bar above my bed falling off and nearly killing me. At her apartment, there's a lot of stuff wrong too, so we bonded about our shared distaste towards landlords. We then talked about the differences between SoCal and NorCal, and agreed that NorCal is much more difficult academically while SoCal's beauty standards are insane. By the end, we were excited about the possibility of concerts, like Rolling Loud, coming back! Talking with her about COVID ending made me feel so happy, and was a wonderful start to the day. I hope she feels better soon and that I get the opportunity to speak with her again!

4/23: My apologies for writing a late interview journal! I had an interview with Caroline Hsu yesterday at 3 PM. I had a really great time talking about all sorts of things, especially our taste in movies and music. We both love Studio Ghibli movies, and I had no idea that there was a course at UCLA that specialized in teaching them! I totally would love to take that with her. We also talked lots about some of the playlists we love so much, and discovered our mutual love for city pop. We also talked about important stuff, like the constant fetishization Asian women must endure. It was upsetting that we both had experienced that fetishization, but being able to talk with someone about it was comforting. Caroline and I ended up speaking until 4 PM, and the time flew by quickly! I cannot wait to get to know Caroline further if and when I cross.

4/26: Today, I had an interview with Aneri Parikh! She was so sweet, and it was so great to learn more about my family. Since I've never been in any sort of Greek Life, the concept of having families, bigs, littles, and all that was so new to me. So, speaking with Aneri and hearing more about my Minority Report family was amazing. We're hopefully planning to do a family dinner soon at Ami! Since our family doesn't have too many people, it'll be so great to become even closer with everyone and form a tight-knit community. I also learned more about her experience with her pledge class, and we also talked about how stressful the current midterms week is. I am super excited about it everything ahead, and cannot wait to speak with her again!

4/26: I just interviewed Maxine Dalton, and it was really great! I enjoyed taking with her about the pledge process, and how pledging will look once it is in person again. I was really grateful that she gave me amazing insight on dorms to live in next year, and learned that she wants to be an RA! It was also really comforting to know that Maxine's first year at UCLA wasn't the best, but her second year seems great. I needed to hear that after experiencing a pretty mellow first year, although her circumstances were much different than mine. She unfortunately had six knee surgeries in her life, and one was right around the time she moved to UCLA. I also learned that she lived in New Zealand with 7 guys and 6 girls before she was a freshman here, which sounds so cool! I'm happy she got to live with so many amazing people. Talking with her was great, and I cannot wait to speak with her more in the future!

4/26: I just had an interview with Naomi Haryono, and she was AMAZING! We started by talking about thrifting and fashion, and I showed her all my amazing fits. Being able to talk about hair styles and fashion was so fun, and it felt like I was talking to a hometown friend! She was telling me about this 80's outfit she wants to wear to a roller rink soon, and if she's reading she, I hope you DEFINITELY wear it out in Westwood! It would look so cute! We also talked a lot about the vaccine, and how great it is that the light at the end of the tunnel feels like it's getting nearer. I told her how once I get my second dose, I would love to visit SLO and Santa Barbara to see my best friends! We ended the interview off by talking about my pledge experience and some pointers on how I can be a better Publicity Chair, and I feel so grateful. It was a wonderful interview to end the night!

4/27 Today, I had my last interview of the week with Hannah Daggy. It was really great speaking with her! We started off talking about the pledge process, and what living in the dorms is like. I really want to live in a dorm next year, so hearing her insight was super helpful! We also talked about some of our favorite foods, and I learned hers is sushi. I just went to a revolving sushi bar in Sawtelle, so I recommended that she should totally visit! By the end, I confessed that I could not ride a bike, and we exchanged some tips on how to learn. The biggest thing is that I can't let to my fear get to me, and hopefully my pledge brothers will help me learn, haha! It was really nice talking to her, and I'm happy to have had my last interview of the week with her. Hope I can speak with her so soon!

4/30: I had my first interview of the week with Ranhita Bora! She was so fun to talk to, and we talked for over an hour. I think it was really interesting how similar our high school experiences are, because we both went to really conservative schools. It's a pretty difficult environment to thrive in. We talked about a bunch of other stuff, too, like our dogs, boyfriend, and how mean landlords can be. We talked about the landlord thing a loooooot. Why do they charge us so much for "luxury" apartments with bad wifi??? It was so nice talking with her as if we had been friends for years. I cannot wait to get to know her further, and definitely think that was the best interview so far

5/2: Today, I had an interview with Matthew Lyou. He was so fun to talk to about such a wide range of stuff! We talked about music, astrology, and our awful snapchat memories. He said something really insightful to me too! We were talking about hair style changes, and about this time he shaved his head. But the beauty of shaving your head is that you learn to accept both the beautiful and ugly stages of appearance. But it's not just about appearance, because it's applicable to life, too. You learn to accept whatever life throws at you, and grow to become a different person out of it. I think that was something that really stuck with me. Thank you Matthew :-)

5/3: I had my third interview today with Julia Rowell, and she was so sweet! Since Ranhita is both of our bigs, we talked about how we had a mutual tie with her. I realized this meant I could attend the Reina line's gatherings, which is so sweet and cool! Being apart of a family like that is super exciting to me. We also talked about a bunch of stuff she has accomplished, and I was so impressed that she has done so so much. I really liked how we both did volunteer work for a music organization, because that was definitely the highlight of my high school experience. The rest of the time we spent talking about casual stuff, like fashion or the pledge process. Julia was so kind, and I am so excited to meet her in person if and when I cross!

5/3: I had my fourth interview with Mira Kholsa today. She was so wonderful and insightful, it was amazing. Mira is the type of person where you feel like you can have the deepest conversations with. She is so in the moment and appreciative of the world around her, that you gain that outlook about the world, too. I think what I had the most fun talking about was how we have to do what makes us feel fulfilled. We both want to minor in Music Industry, which is sick! I think music really encapsulates a moment in time that you can cherish forever, and can only be reminded of by song. I really love that we both related to that so much. The interview went on for nearly an hour and a half, and the time flew by quicker than I realized. I am so happy I spoke to Mira.

5/4: I had my fifth interview with Chidi Omeze today. I really liked talking to him about a wide range of topics, especially the college system and some experiences we had as kids. I think it was really nice that he likes having good style, because it's so rare to find a guy who has amazing fashion sense! He likes wearing pops of colors, so that anytime he walks into a room, he will always be remembered. I think that's a wonderful mentality to have, and automatically makes him stand out among anybody else. I also like wearing pops of color, but will start really being more confident in what I wear after he said that. It was really so nice talking with him, and I hope he gets his graduation photos taken soon like he was telling me

5/4: I had my sixth interview with Sophie Zane today. She was so kind and sweet, and was wearing the cutest sweater! It felt really easygoing to talk to her and learn about new courses and internships I could take. She suggested a ThinkTank internship that a lot of people within this fraternity have completed, and I am considering it! I am dying for an internship to get professional experience within the public policy field. She also brought to my attention some really cool minors, such as Labor Studies. I really loved talking with her, and will take everything she told me to heart when I start choosing my classes for my next quarter! She was such a comforting person to speak with

5/4: I just had my last interview of the week with Caitlin Buckley today. She was SO FUN to talk to!! First off, she's my Grandbig, so I already felt a huge connection with her. I was slightly intimidated at first since she's older than me, already took the LSAT, and also used to be AVPR--but the second I started speaking with her, I realized how sweet and kind she is. We talked a lot about pets, like the one time she fostered this big dog named Mir. ScoobyDoo at her apartment. We then looked on petfinder.com together and found lots of dogs and cats with weird names, like Hank Kornbread. She was so wonderful and I am so excited to speak with her more!!

5/6: I had my first interview of the week with Suzy Kadir. It was so lovely speaking with her! I talked to her about my current distaste towards Political Science classes, in which she agreed. Although we are both in the major, we find it difficult to really enjoy the classes at all. Plus, any credits towards Political Science are virtually useless anywhere else. That sucks. We talked a lot about the pledge process as well, and how different it is since our pledge sizes are so different. I was happy to hear she really liked our professional event last night, so that was lovely! We ended by talking about our piercings and her tattoos, and how annoying piercings can be. Her cartilage piercing and my belly hutton piercings are both being very mean to us at the moment. Overall, I really enjoyed my interview with Suzy and cannot wait to speak with her again!
